A few days ago we started the work of removing all the barbed wire along the road that goes all the way through the WCA reserve. We never liked to have these fences, but it was a necessity because cows would be entering the reserve along the road from our neighbours on both sides. We have now secured one side of the reserve (by including the neighbours land in the reserve) and have a good agreement with the farm on the other side. The work will take several weeks, but every day, we will be opening more area up so that the mountain tapirs and other animals again can roam freely and inhabit areas that for decades have been without the native fauna. Most places we will leave the poles, so that people understand, that they are not allowed to enter the nature reserve, since it is an important area for mountain tapir conservation.
