Four Weeks in WILD Campo Alegre (and Pereira): A Journey of Heart and Purpose
Spending almost four weeks at WILD campo Alegre – and in Pereira with Maria and Christian has been nothing short of extraordinary.
I am on garden leave and wanted to use the time not only to do something good, but also to step away from everyday routines, set my priorities and focus in the right way, and recharge my energy.
This place and its project radiate meaning. With the dedication of Yonis, Mosquera, Daniel, Christian, and Maria, it feels only natural that more mountain tapirs are being spotted now than just three years ago. Their commitment commands huge respect.
Meanwhile, a new house is rising, built by the most fantastic team. Fercho, Robinson, and Sebastian work with such professionalism that following their progress is pure joy. And every day, Ledis has ensured we are well-fed—though I must admit, patas de cerdo (pig’s feet 😱) were not my favorite! Even when words failed, her warmth shone through, especially when she gently reminded me: “pausa pausa, Gudrun.” 🫶
Spanish lessons have never been part of my past, but I’ve tried—and the attempts have sparked countless hilarious moments. A heartfelt thank to everyone for their patience but especially to Mosquera, who has patiently tried to understand me and teach me the language.
I’ve felt embraced as part of the family: working together, laughing when the boys headed out on their new motorcycles, watching them train in the beautiful homemade fitness center—results that are clearly visible!
Looking ahead, I can’t wait to return. I want to check on the houses, the gardens, and the flowerbeds around the main house 😉, and hopefully spot more than the four mountain tapirs I’ve already seen. And of course, I’ll be checking whether the boys have kept in shape 💪.
Maria, Christian, and everyone here—you, and this place, are already deeply missed.❤️
I am returning to Denmark recharged and looking bright at the future for WILD Campo Alegre ⭐️
